Thursday October 1 is the 71st birthday of the PRC, and the country will be on holiday through October 8 for National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Unlike in years past there will be little to no overseas travel during this weeklong vacation, so expect domestic tourist sites to be even more swamped than usual during this year’s break. There is likely a lot of pent up demand for travel and consumption, so this week may break records for domestic spending during a holiday.
Sinocism will be off from Thursday 10.1 until late next week, barring something big happening, but I will run a discussion thread this Friday as usual.
Today’s Essential Eight:
Official National Day activities
US-China
Taiwan
Preparing for protracted tech war
Huawei getting revenge through Google?
Wolf warriors have an audience of one?
Europe-China
Australia-China
Thanks for reading, hope to see you Friday in the open discussion.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节快乐!
