Welcome to the Sinocism Weekly, a free Friday newsletter highlighting the most important items from the Sinocism Essential Eight published Monday through Thursday. This week was dominated by two overlapping stories: the opening of China’s annual Two Sessions legislative meetings in Beijing, and the US–Israel military strikes on Iran that sent shockwaves through energy markets and forced Beijing into a delicate balancing act between its diplomatic ambitions and its energy security anxieties. Underneath those headlines, the week also brought fresh signals on the tech decoupling front, another China-related espionage scandal in the UK, and continued evidence that Xi Jinping’s military purge is far from over.
Bill, as I read the Essential Eights every day the weekly recap doesn’t deliver any extra value added to me. I spend the weekend listening to Sharp China, Trivium Pod and Drum Tower, plus reading the Economist.
I think the weekly digest is very helpful. It particularly assists those of us who on some days have to hustle through the daily edition. It also provides a forum for Bill to summarize and, where are possible, interpret the complexities of new developments.
I like it, Bill. It's nice to have a weekly roundup, especially during weeks when I might not have had time to read the daily newsletter as thoroughly as I might have liked.
The weekly digest is a useful addition to the daily bulletins. This allows for a more peaceful weekend reading of news items which get drowned out in the working week torrent. A very good idea – thank you!

Great idea. Make it more brief. Say why each event is significant in the first summary paragraph. Your opinions matter here as much as the content
Hi Bill,
A good idea, as long as you give Tashi enough time to write it.
he writes better

I like the weekly. I don’t always get to the daily, so this is a welcome addition.

I like the weekly format. Sometimes I don’t have the time to read the detailed “daily” posts so a quick overview of the week is nice.
