re Dapiran and "It will be seen as a sign that the Hong Kong people are making the wrong choice, and action needs to be taken to correct them..." I don't know why Beijing is so worried about Hong Kong. I mean, there are millions of people in Xinjiang making wrong choices, and Beijing has a solution in place for that sort of incorrect thinking. Wouldn't have to build new camps. Could probably use university dorms or an empty office building or two .... I fear that the only result from these months will be some version of Remember Hong Kong! akin to Remember the Alamo! http://chinareflections.com/index.php/104-comments-on-the-news/432-remember-hong-kong

Sadly, I agree.

I stopped following the Hong Kong protests like I used to. It’s too sad. I agree with Dapiran that the elections are only signaling to the PRC that HKers are making the wrong choice.

HKers have been labeled cockroaches. They require re-education.

I even (maybe radically) believe that money is NOT the core of the PRC's goals, but instead, its ideological purity and order (control). Xi Jinping is more like Mao than Deng and does not have a pragmatic backbone - his is ideological and power mongoring. The great rejuventation is built not on finance, but on the purity of mind - the power of transformed minds - deeply ingrained ideology and unity of spirit.

HK is but an arena where a free people war against an all-consuming machine. The verdict is already decided, it’s just a matter of syphoning off that freedom slow enough so that their screams will not cause too much trouble,. We cannot be mistaken, the goal is to siphon off freedom. Those who oppose will be re-educated.

I am actively trying to convince my HK friends to leave HK or stay in the US.
