Put aside in favor of economic development in the early 1990s, ideology has re-entered center stage in China since 2012. Ideological considerations trump realtpolitik and economy. All experts seem to fail in recognizing this important feature, we seem to have unlearned dealing with this since the USSR collapsed. The current conflict is the result of fundamentally incompatible systems. The Trump administration asks for China to become compatible. Doing so, China would need to abandon core ideological principles, a very unlikely move at this time.

Re: subscription - technical issue
Am I the only one having trouble being recognised as a subscriber? Love the
idea of a comments section, but anytime I try to access this new function
(or indeed the archives) i end up being sent back to a login page, even
after having entered login info.
Is there a technical solution to this that you know of?
Apologies for such a mundane query - all best
Sorry about this, we will take a look to try to figure out what the issue is
