It's ironic that it takes an act of God to finally give chicom a real run for its money. What does that say about them and us? How would a democratic government (especially a 3rd world one) have done facing an outbreak like this in and around the equivalent of Thanks Giving and Xmas?

It seems to me that chicom is in danger precisely because it is held acutely responsible and expectation is high, whereas in case of a run of the mill post cold war neoliberal democratic government, no one is truely accountable, expectation is low, and the revolving door simply keeps turning merrily, regardless of what happens to the little people. Even protesting persistently and sometimes violently makes no difference. My two cents. Or 50 Cents. ;)
